School Improvement Grant

Greetings!

      CHE received special grant funding from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction in October 2016.  The grant is for five years beginning 2016-17 and running through the 2020-21 school year.

      The purpose for this grant is to provide funding to improve the academic achievement of all students at Carver Heights and to increase the number of students who graduate prepared for success in college and career.

     The grant focus is on:

  • Developing and increasing teacher and school leader effectiveness;
  • Comprehensive instructional reform strategies;
  • Increasing learning time and creating a community-oriented school; and
  • Providing operational flexibility and sustained support.

     We look forward to transforming Carver Heights into one of the highest performing schools in Wayne County over the next four years!

How will you and your child benefit from this grant?

  • CHE teachers will receive high quality professional development focused on Professional Learning Communities this year.  The professional development will improve the knowledge and skills of our  teachers that will transfer into the classroom to improve teaching and learning.
  • Parents will have the opportunity to participate in thematic parent nights.  These events will help our parents understand how to assist their children to reach high academic achievement.
  • Students will have the opportunity to participate in Summer Enrichment Camps focused on Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).  The STEM experiences will extend student thinking to high levels and expose them to opportunities that they would not otherwise be afforded.
  • Teachers will receive incentives for successful completion of professional development offerings and the completion of a capstone project associated therewith.  In addition, they will receive incentives for leading their students to exceeding the expected growth standards set by the State of NC.  These incentives will lead to improved teaching and learning.
  • Teachers and students will have access to a Model READY Classroom that will allow teaching and learning in a unique classroom environment.
  • Teachers will be afforded time to collaborate with their grade level teams that will result in improved teaching and learning.
  • This grant offers a WIN-WIN for CHE staff, students, and parents!

Focus on student attendance and academic achievement

 Please ensure that your child attends school every day.  In addition, it is imperative that your child arrives at school on time and is not signed out early.  When a student is absent, late for school, or picked up early, he/she is missing valuable instructional time.  Please keep absences, tardies to school, and early checkouts to a minimum this year.  Research shows that school attendance is directly related to student achievement.

We plan to soar to greater academic achievement heights this year.  Please help us by doing your part on student attendance.

School day hours:  7:30 a.m. – 2:45 p.m.
